COVID-19 Simulated Game

I haven’t left the house in six days, and miss calling baseball dearly. Today I created a fake baseball game using a deck of cards and dice and thought you might enjoy listening to my call as I played.

Here’s the first three innings of my simulated game (it’s an hour-long broadcast).

If you’re interested in playing yourself I’ve posted my made-up rules below.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 deck of playing cards, I left the jokers in. Adjust as necessary.

  • 1 die

  • A scorekeeping method, I happened to have a scorebook available but notebook paper would work as well.

(If you don’t have cards or dice, RANDOM.org has virtual cards to draw and dice to roll).

The Rules:

Draw a card every pitch. If it’s a ball in play, roll the dice for safe or out. I shuffled the deck every half inning.

the Cards

Cards 1-10 Black: Ball

Cards 1-10 Red: Strike

Face Card Red: Foul Ball

Face Card Black: Ball in Play

Jack: Ground Ball

Queen: Ground Ball

King: Fly Ball

Ace: Fly Ball

Joker 1: Wild Pitch

Joker 2: Homerun

If a ground ball goes for a hit, assume it’s a base hit. If a fly ball goes for a hit, assume it’s a double.

the Dice

Odd Number: Out

Even Number: Safe

Have fun, and stay home!
